Megan’s Law
- There
are more than 7,000 convicted sex offenders registered in NY State under
the Sex Offenders Registration Act, better know as Megan’s Law
- Although
there have been numerous challenges to the Sex Offenders Registration
Act, the courts have consistently upheld its validity.
- Under
Megan’s Law, convicted sex offenders are required to register with the
State upon their release from prison and notify the registry when they
relocate.
- Megan’s
Law creates 3 levels of sex offenders:
A – Level 1 ( low risk)
B – Level 2 (moderate risk)
C – Level 3 ( is now on the Division of Criminal Justice Services
(DCJS) website.)
- A
person can access information about the sex offender registration act
and then subdirectory of high risk offenders on this website.
- If
you are a ministry/church you can check out the names of those who wish
to become a part of your nursery, youth, or Sunday school programs to
see if they are registered with this website.
- The
public, ministry, church, or any youth or child related programs may
