Being a Single Mother

Being a single mother is not easy. Sleepless nights, long days, days without showers, fewer bathroom breaks and definitely less eating. These are just a few things that one experiences during the first few months of motherhood, not to mention the inability to work and have a social life. But, when you look at the face of your newborn baby it is all worth it. You have this overwhelming sense of love and protection for this little being that now is your whole life. Your every waking moment is surrounded by what this little one needs. It is no longer about you.

Motherhood, to some, is too much to handle. Now on top of being a mother you are single and have no mate to help you. This is when the help and strength of your family and God comes in. Remember, that God does not give you any more than you can handle. So, if you are a single mom and feel the weight of the world on your shoulders know that God is confident in you being a mother and being able to handle this little bundle of joy.

Hardships in Life

The definition of hardship is extreme privation; suffering. A hardship is something different to each person. For one person hardship is love, support and/or money. Yet, for someone else a hardship can literally mean the lack of basic necessities such as; shelter, food and clothing.

No matter what your hardship is keep your head up high you will make it through it. Trust me I have gone through many different types of hardships in my life. Even at my young age. They may not be looked at as hardships by some- but like I said before hardships are different to different people.

My article last month was about being a single mother. This is one of my hardships. I am a mother to a ten week old beautiful little girl and I am doing everything within my power to make sure and prevent any hardships that she may encounter. And for those hardships I can’t help her with I will be her strength and her guiding eyes (like my mother is to me) so she will be able to handle what life brings her way.

Let’s face it no one lives in this world today that hasn’t faced or will face a hardship. But, with your relationship with God he will give you strength.

We are receiving nominations for the seventh annual "Women of the Year Award's Banquet" as mentioned in our home page. What Happened in '2003

In 2003 we started training Churches and ministries on child abuse prevention in the Sunday schools, churches and youth ministries. With the reports of more and more abuse seminars were set up to teach leaders on the proper safeguards that can be instituted to protect children.

We were also honored in that our hotline is now used as a referral by Dr. James Dobson's "Focus on the Family" ministry. When abuse calls are received, our toll free hotline number (866) 86 ABUSE is given.

What Happened in '2002

In 2002 we saw the beginning of our marriage seminars, which were given to help people understand the true mean behind the Oneness of Christian Marriage.

The hotline also grew to National status with referral sources throughout the fifty states.

What Happened in '2001

Last years focus was concentrated on getting our 24 hour hotline begun with its 3 training classes for counselors and the Second Annual "Woman of the Year" awards banquet. It was held in October at the New Huntington Town House with over 550 attending. Not only were the winners and all the nominees touched, but all those in attendance were moved by the inspiring stories of the winners. Corporate sponsors such as Wittnauer Watches, The new Huntington Town House, & WWDJ & KJOY radio were behind the event with generous monetary and in-kind donations. It was a great success.

Mary Elberfeld also spoke at many women's meeting throughout the year and is available again this year for dynamic messages on a women's role in the church, ministry and relationships.

What Happened in '99 & '00

In '00 our efforts were concentrated on the First Women of the Year Awards Banquet and making it a success. Over 400 people attended to honer their nominees and were overwelmed by the night'd festivities.

In the month of March '99 Women of Substance went out on the road, so to speak. We took the camera and all the equipment on location to America's Keswick Conference Center in Whiting, New Jersey. On the conference grounds is a Substance Abuse Center called "The Colony". The Colony provides a 120-day program with a 90% success rate. The program is entrenched in the scriptures with Jesus being the only true way for complete deliverance. America's Keswick invited us so, WOS went and did 5 shows. All of them around the subject matter of alcohol or drug abuse and of course Jesus, His grace and His faithfulness. We were able to speak to not only the former abuser but also their spouse and what it was like for them and the pressures put on the families. I personally think the shows went great. We hope you enjoyed them. We want to give a great BIG thanks to America's Keswick for opening their doors to us and our crew and all the guests who were open and transparent about their very difficult circumstances. Your vulnerability will help others in their own deliverance.

Humanitarian Relief to Bosnia

Women of Substance was privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort to Bosnia. WOS, with the help of many ministries and giving people, was able to send three-quarters of a ton of warm winter clothing. We sent over 38 boxes weighing about 1500 pounds.

We here, at the ministry, are very excited that we could do our part for the people of Bosnia. The donated children’s clothing went to a children's orphanage and also to a children's hospital. The adult clothing was going to the country side where the refugees from this civil war lived. L.T.C. Kevin McAleese was our contact there and has since come back to the States. A few of us here had the opportunity to sit down with him over dinner and hear his stories. Kevin also wants to say Thank You personally for all your support in this effort.

The Earthquake Victims of Columbia...

Because of our involvement with Bosnia, a door opened to help with the efforts in Columbia. WOS sent over 400 pounds of clothing, shoes, sheets, and towels, to Colombia. We are, once again, blessed to participate in such a venture. So a great big thank you for both efforts goes out to: Abundant Life Ministries Glory Zone Ministries St. Pius Church New Beginnings Cablevision of Hauppauge Miteq Electronics WTHE Radio & listeners Not to mention all those who have participated individually- Thank you from all of us to all of you. Special Note: I personally want to thank Margie & Maria Clacher. Without you, I would have went out of my mind. Thank you, Thank you!!!
